Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Memories that weren’t fully processed at the time, often because there was too much overwhelm or disconnection around, can continue to influence how you feel, respond, and relate to yourself and others in the present moment. You may find yourself reacting strongly to situations now, despite knowing that things have changed.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a well established and evidence-based therapy that allows the brain and the body reprocess memories. EMDR uses 'bilateral stimulation' (tapping or eye movements) to do this. As reprocessing happens, the emotional intensity around the memories reduces, allowing their impact on everyday life to soften. This leads to less emotional reactivity and creates more space for choice in the present moment.
EMDR for PTSD
EMDR is recommended for PTSD, and is also effective for a wide range of other emotional difficulties. EMDR is especially helpful when you feel “stuck” in the past or when emotional reactions don’t seem to match the current situation.
When can EMDR help?
EMDR can help with many difficulties, including:

Trauma (PTSD and Complex PTSD)
Flashbacks, nightmares, triggers, and intrusive memories
Strong emotional and bodily reactions
Negative beliefs about yourself, others, or the world
Relationship difficulties
Feeling unable change to repeating patterns
Addiction (including drugs, alcohol, and other addictive behaviours)
